We disagree with the city dataset on 3 amenities — tap to see

We hand-author beach details from on-the-ground sources. The city dataset (Haleiwa Beach Park) is an official inventory that can lag reality. Worth a cross-check on arrival.

  • Lifeguard: we say yes; city says no.

We list lifeguards here. City inventory may be stale — verify with posted tower hours on arrival.

  • Drinking water: we say yes; city says no.

Drinking-water flags vary across datasets and the fountains themselves can be out of service. Refill bottles before you leave home if it matters.

  • Playground: we say no; city says yes.

The city dataset may be picking up a non-traditional play feature — outdoor fitness equipment, a volleyball court, or a community play area — rather than a fenced kids' playground. Eyeball it on arrival.

What to expect

Haleʻiwa Beach Park is the family choice on the north shore, especially in winter when Waimea / Pipeline / Sunset have gigantic surf. The harbor-side sand and the sheltered position make this one of the few north-shore swim beaches that's family-safe year-round. Walking distance to Haleʻiwa town for shave ice and food.

Parent notes

Pair with Matsumoto's or Aoki's shave ice in town — a 10-minute walk. The harbor side is quieter; the open-beach side has the wider sand strip. Surf School Hawaii operates lessons here for older kids on small days.

Safety

Lifeguarded. Watch boat traffic in the channel near the harbor. North-shore surf cycles can still reach this beach occasionally — check the lifeguard's posted forecast.

Tsunami zone

This beach sits in the Tsunami Evacuation Zone per Hawai‘i Statewide GIS. If sirens sound or shaking is felt, move inland and uphill immediately. Hawai‘i Emergency Management →
